School Improvement Agenda: Student Engagement

One of our three school improvement priority areas is increasing student engagement in school.  Last Tuesday, we welcomed the NED Show to Beachmere State School.  The show focussed around a loveable cartoon character whose name ‘Ned’, is an acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.  The students learnt all about these three important messages through storytelling, magic tricks, humour and yo-yo tricks.  Through the last week, our teachers have embraced the key messages and utilised some of the great resources on the NED website.  If you would like to learn more about the NED Program, please visit the below website.  There is range of parent resources on the website which may be useful at home.

Green City Robotics Challenge Congratulations to our Robotics Team who competed in the Green City Robotics Challenge on Monday afternoon.  It was a tight contents, but Gabby and Willow, took away first place by 5 points.  It was great to see our QUT ambassadors in attendance to support our students and officiate the competition. A big thank you to Miss Gam for organising this event, even using our school’s 3D printer to print the trophies.  What a great afternoon!

        First Place: Gabby and Willow

Second Place: Zayne and Jack

Third Place: Ethan and Adam

   School 3D Printed Trophy

Students Learn About Our Local Native BeesSome of our students had the opportunity last week, to spend some time in our Veggie Garden, learning about the importance of our local native bees to our environment. We even got to taste some local native bee honey.  We would like to send out a big thank you to our local volunteers Helen, Bruce and Amazing Dave for sharing their knowledge with us.  We would also like to thank Mr Lowe for organising their visit.

Tree Removal
DETE facilities has recently engaged an arborist to assess the trees in our school grounds.  From this process, a number of trees have been identified for either removal or pruning due to ongoing safety concerns.  When the report is available, it will be tabled at the next P&C meeting.  If you have any concerns or questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to contact the office, or attend the P&C meeting.

District Athletics:Good luck to our Beachmere SS athletes who are competing at District Athletics this Tuesday and Wednesday.  Students, remember our lessons from the NED presentation – Never Give Up, Encourage Others, Do your best!   We can’t wait to hear how you go!

Inter-School Sport Gala Day –  Friday 17th August:Our first Inter-School Sport Gala Day will be held next Friday 17th August.  Our year 5 & 6 students will participate in a range of sports including touch football, netball and rugby union.  Students have received their permission forms.  Please return these as soon as possible to help us organise transport.  Best of luck Beachmere students!

Uniform Expectations - Jumpers:Thank you to our parents and students for working hard to follow the Beachmere State School Uniform Policy.  We have been doing a great job with our shorts, polo shirts and hats.  Your support to ensure our students are also wearing a navy blue jumper would be greatly appreciated.

Attendance is the Key to Learning:Research has proven that regular attendance at school is one of the most important factors to ensure student improvement in reading, writing and maths.  It is so very important that your child attends school every day.  We have set an attendance target of 93% for all students this term.  I have included below a student attendance overview per class from last week for your reference.  It is great to see that 3A, 5/6B and 5G have achieved above our target in week 3.  Please give your child the best possible start in life by ensuring he/she attends school regularly.

Term 3 Calendar Up to Date:The Beachmere State School Website has been updated for term 3 events.  The website enables our school to link with iPhone and Android Apps such as the Queensland Government’s “QSchoolsApp.  The QSchools App is a convenient way to receive up-to-the-minute information from and about schools. The App is designed to integrate with our school website, and allows users to see when news, events and newsletters are posted to their selected school website. The school community can also receive emergency announcements such as natural disasters and school closures through the App.  Further information about the QSchools App can be found at: http://deta.qld.gov.au/about/app/qschools-app.htmlOur school website address is: www.beachmeress.eq.edu.au.

Parent Opinion Surveys

Published by Beachmere State School

The School Opinion Survey is undertaken each year by the department’s State Schools Division to obtain the opinions of parents/caregivers, students and school staff about important aspects of schooling. The survey is designed to help schools identify what they do well and what they can improve on.  A random selection of parents across the school would have received an invitation to complete the survey.  I would like to encourage you to complete this survey so that your opinion can help influence the schools future priorities and direction. The survey closes on the 24 August.  If you need support to complete the online survey, please don’t hesitate to contact the office.
