Welcome back to Beachmere State School for a very busy, but exciting Term 4. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new students and their families who have joined us at Beachmere this term. With only 9 weeks of the 2018 school year remaining, there is still lots to do. Although we will be preparing for our end year events and activities (such as Year 6 Graduation and our End of Year Concert) our main focus will continue to be on reading, writing and student engagement.
Teaching Block 2 Renovation
We have been successful with a facilities grant to upgrade teaching block 2. This work was planned to start over the holiday break, however, there has been an unexpected delay. The work is now planned to commence towards the end of this term. The four classrooms will be remodelled, including upgrading teaching walls, built in storage, paint, carpet and furniture. Exciting times ahead for Beachmere SS!
School Improvement Focus – WritingThese year 2 students have been learning how to use alliteration in their writing. They came up to the Principal Office last week to present their wonderful work. Great job students!
Prep Student Enrolment Applications
Our school has commenced our Prep Enrolment process for the 2019 School Year. Enrolment packs can be collected from our school office for any interested parents. We will host Parent Information Sessions on this Wednesday 17th October at 5:30pm and our Prep Transition Program will run each Wednesdays morning in Term 4 from week 3 to week 7. Should you require further information please contact our friendly office staff on 5433 9222.
Class Allocations 2018
In the next few weeks, teachers will be undertaking a range of planning activities as we look toward 2019. One of these activities will be the allocation of students to classes. Parents who have a specific request regarding the ‘type’ of teacher they feel their child needs in 2019, e.g. “I’d like a teacher who will extend student x in Maths” or “I request a teacher who will help student y in her reading” are asked to put their request in writing. We make a student’s class allocation based upon the needs of the student and the teacher who will best support that student. So, if you have a request for a type of teacher, please put your request in writing, addressed to me and marked “Private and Confidential”, then drop it in to the office. Any request that identifies a particular teacher cannot be considered, so please ensure that if you put a request in, it is about the type of teacher, not a specific person. All decisions will be based on ensuring we maximise the learning opportunities for all students.
Leaving us in 2019?
If your child will not be returning to Beachmere State School next year, please notify the office and your child’s teacher as soon as possible so we can be as accurate as possible with class formations. Pig RacesThe Beachmere Tavern Pig Races are a fundraiser held each year to raise money for our P & C. The Pig Races will be held at the Beachmere Tavern on Saturday 27 October, commencing at 10am. This event is lots of fun for students and parents alike! If you are available to help out on the day, please let the office or Mrs Capelli (P&C President) know. I hope you can come along and support this event.

Using the Crossing - Road
We continue to have safety concerns for students and parents who are not using the supervised crossing to cross over James Road. Crossing between parked cars is extremely dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers. We are providing reminders during morning messages, but would appreciate all parents speaking with their children about the importance of using the supervised crossing.
Glass Water Bottles
Due to workplace, health and safety regulations, glass water bottles are not permitted to be used at school. Parents and caregivers, please check that your child's water bottle is not made from glass. Thank you!
Student Free Day
Parents/Caregivers are reminded that next Monday 22 October is a Student Free Day. Students are required to stay home on this date. Beachmere Staff will be involved in a full day of professional development and learning workshops.
Attendance is the Key to Learning
What a terrific start to Term 4 with 7 classes exceeding our attendance target of 93% in week 1. Well done to Prep M, Prep S, 1/2BR, 3M, 4S, 5/6B and 5G. Let’s try hard to keep these great attendance results occurring all the way through Term 4! I have included below a student attendance overview per class from last week for your reference.
Holt Bolt and Disco
What a great end we had to Term 3, with students thoroughly enjoying both the Holt Bolt Obstacle Course and the P&C Disco. A big thank you to our P&C for supporting such great activities for our students to participate in!

QSchools App and School WebsiteThe
Beachmere State School Website enables our school to link with iPhone and Android Apps such as the Queensland Government’s “QSchools” App. The QSchools App is a convenient way to receive up-to-the-minute information from and about schools. The App is designed to integrate with our school website, and allows users to see when news, events and newsletters are posted to their selected school website. The school community can also receive emergency announcements such as natural disasters and school closures through the App. The QSchools App will be particularly useful to parents who have students in different schools, as the App manages updates from multiple schools in a single view. All Queensland state schools are searchable via the app. Further information about the QSchools App can be found at: http://deta.qld.gov.au/about/app/qschools-app.ht¬¬ml
Our school website address is: www.beachmeress.eq.edu.au.
