Teaching Block 2 Renovation
We have been successful with a facilities grant to upgrade teaching block 2. This work will commence over the holiday break. The four classrooms will be remodelled, including upgrading teaching walls, built in storage, paint, carpet and furniture. We are expecting the work to be completed in the middle of Term 4. Exciting times ahead for Beachmere SS!
Big Improvements in Naplan
We have recently received our school results from the year 3 and 5 National Literacy and Numeracy tests which were completed in May this year. Parents of children in year 3 and 5 who participated in these tests, should have received their child’s individual results last week. As a school, we have made some great improvements across the board. Our mean (average) score increased in 9 areas out of 10 areas tested from 2017 to 2018, with reading being the biggest improver. It is pleasing to see that our school improvement strategies are making a difference to our student achievement data. Well done Beachmere!
Jack Reed Cup
Congratulations to our year 4/5 rugby league team who competed in the Jack Reed Carnival at Caboolture on Friday 14 September. The team won 3 out of 4 games and played well across the day. Student behaviour was again outstanding and the students did a great job of representing the Beachmere State School community. Well done boys!
Samsung Netball Cup
Our very eager Beachmere SS netball team travelled all the way to Bundaberg over the weekend to compete in the annual Samsung Netball Cup. The students had a terrific experience, competing against some fo the best Netball teams in the state. Well done students. I would also like to thank Ms Gam, Mr and Mrs Hollinger and Leah Hollinger for giving up a valuable weekend to support our students.
Using the Crossing - Road
We continue to have safety concerns for students and parents who are not using the supervised crossing to cross over James Road. Crossing between parked cars is extremely dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers. We are providing reminders during morning messages, but would appreciate all parents speaking with their children about the importance of using the supervised crossing.
Lioness Fair – Dry Boat Races and School Choir
The Beachmere Lionesses will be holding their annual fair at Clayton Park on Saturday 13 October. They have invited our students, parents and staff to register teams in the Annual Dry Boat Races. There will be three categories – Under 8, 9-12yrs and 12yr – Adults. Teams of four will compete for the Annual Boat Race Trophy. Registration forms are available at the office and Mrs Sorrell and myself will be available in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays at second break to support students to build their boats. If you are able to attend the fair, please encourage your child to participate. Our School Choir will also be performing at 12pm. We hope to see you there!
Prep Student Enrolment Applications
Our school is about to commence our Prep Enrolment process for the 2019 School Year. Enrolment packs can be collected from our school office for any interested parents. We will host a Parent Information Session on Wednesday 17th October at 5:30pm and our Prep Transition Program will run each Wednesdays morning in Term 4 from week 3 to week 7. Should you require further information please contact our friendly office staff on 5433 9222.
Chaplaincy Dinner – Shane Webcke
Our Chaplaincy Dinner was a great success, with guest speaker Shane Webcke proving very popular. Congratulations to Di Carpenter, Troy Juides and the LCC on a terrific night. A big thank you to our parents, community and staff who were able to attend and the Beachmere Tavern and our local donating businesses for their wonderful support for our school and the chaplaincy program. I am excited to announce that we raised approximately $5000 to support school chaplaincy. What a great effort!
Well done Beachmere. Holt Bolt will be going ahead on our school oval for registered students and parents from 9:30 -10:30am this Thursday. Students will need to wear either old clothes, or clothes that can get wet (including shoes) to school on Thursday morning. They need to bring along a towel, their uniforms to change into after they complete the course. Students will need a bag to put their wet clothes into. Please feel free to come along and watch!
Attendance is the Key to Learning
Most classes fell short of our attendance target in week 9 with only 1/2BR making it above 93%. Well done 1/2BR. We need to keep working hard on improving our attendance in term I have included below a student attendance overview per class from last week for your reference.

QSchools App and School Website
The Beachmere State School Website enables our school to link with iPhone and Android Apps such as the Queensland Government’s “QSchools” App.
The QSchools App is a convenient way to receive up-to-the-minute information from and about schools. The App is designed to integrate with our school website, and allows users to see when news, events and newsletters are posted to their selected school website. The school community can also receive emergency announcements such as natural disasters and school closures through the App. The QSchools App will be particularly useful to parents who have students in different schools, as the App manages updates from multiple schools in a single view. All Queensland state schools are searchable via the app. Further information about the QSchools App can be found at: http://deta.qld.gov.au/about/app/qschools-app.html
Our school website address is: www.beachmeress.eq.edu.au.
I would like to thank our school community for your support during Term 3 and wish you a safe and happy holiday break. School will resume on Monday 8 October.
Yours in Education
