Robotics in class

Students in Years 1-4 participate in lessons related to coding and digital technologies. These lessons range from learning the skills required to complete digital tasks to programming robots and characters to follow instructions. Students have at different levels created programmes to complete a task. Years 2-4 have used LEGO WeDo kits to create moving models that can be programmed to complete tasks.
Extension Program
Students in Years 3, 5 and 6 selected for the robotics extension program were identified by their high academic results. The group works together to programme LEGO EV3 robots using ipads to complete tasks. The groups will focus on various projects including the Moreton Region Robocup challenges, the Green City challenge and the FIRST LEGO League Animal Allies challenge. Students will be creating programmes involving movement, sensors, switches and loops.
The Year 3 group were introduced to the programming and how to give the robot precise instructions and tasked with moving the robot in a square. This introduced simple straight and turn movements as well as the concept of loops. Stay tuned for a video showing the robot completing this task.
Extra-curricular robotics
Students in Years 5 and 6 are invited at the beginning of term 2 to join the robotics group. In 2016 Year 5 students participate in programming activities on Mondays and Year 6 students participate on Wednesdays. The teams take part in Robocup, the Green City Challenge and the FIRST LEGO challenge.
